Betsy Ross designed a beautiful flag for our nation. Her flag had thirteen stars - one for each of the colonies. It looked like this:

Today our flag has the stars arranged in rows. There is a star for each state. Our flag still has thirteen stripes symbolizing the original thirteen colonies.
